International Franchise Stores
Having opened the first international franchise store in Bahrain in 1997, by the start of 2010 Debenhams had 51 stores in 18 countries (Bahrain, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Moldova, the Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, Vietnam).
Under the arrangements with our franchise partners, we supply products to the franchise stores and are paid the cost of the products plus a margin. We also receive a royalty fee on sales of products from third party suppliers. We work together with our partners to agree on product ranges to meet local selling conditions, which often include different customer shopping habits and seasonal trends. The franchise stores provide us with an opportunity to explore different format stores, such as the new concept designer home store opened in Kuwait's 'Avenues' Mall in Autumn 2007.
